Date Night In Idea

Marriage is hard...sometimes. All those marriage blogs out there that tell you it's all peaches and roses all the time are full of CRAP because sometimes marriage is just hard. Don't get me wrong, I love my hubby with everything that I am but I also plot his death in my mind on occasion (TOTALLY kidding!!) :). We have only been married for a year, but we have had a few fights, so I feel like I have at least a little bit of wisdom to offer. It's true that sometimes, I want to lite him on fire on the way to work in the mornings, but always by the end of the day, I am still totally loving and missing him. Sometimes marriage is weird that way :)

Wednesday morning was particularly nasty for us,  so by the end of the day I decided we both needed a little something so we could feel the love. Not to mention it was the first day of school for both of us. We had such a great time that we are going to start doing date nights in at least once a week.

Great thing about a date night in is that you get to have a lot of fun, all while not spending very much money. Plus, it's been pretty cold and rainy lately so who wants to get out in that?!

For our date night, we had some pizza and did a craft together. When I told my hubby we were doing a "craft" he just chuckled at me, but he ended up having a great time.

To prepare for this date night you need:
-Mugs
-Colored Sharpie Pens

Optional:
-Cheap Pizza for dinner
-Your favorite beverage (we had Coke and Water lol)
-Quilt to sit on

I wanted to make this date as fun as possible for as little as possible SO I stopped by Dollar General to pick up the mugs for our craft. If you can, get white mugs so the colors show up better. They didn't have any white mugs, so I got the next best thing: GREEN! Green was one of our wedding colors so we are kind of partial to it, but you can pick whatever color you want. The mugs were $1.50 each.... so far the date was costing me a little over $3. I already had sharpies so I didn't need to get any of those.

Next I stopped by Dominoes. On Wednesday nights they have medium pizzas for $3.99 which is the perfect size for the two of us to stuff our faces. I'm not sure if this is franchise wide or only in our town, but there are plenty of places that have cheap pizza. Little Caesars always has pizza for $5 and the grocery store has frozen pizza for anywhere from $1-$7. Anyways, grand total of the date so far: about $7. That's a steal!

I realize this post is getting long and I need to get to the point! Just bare with me.

OK, so I layed out a quilt in the middle of our living room and set up the pizza and drinks for us to eat picnic style. We ate the pizza strait out of the box... can you say AWESOME?! We also watched Grey's Anatomy(obviously, my choice) and talked about our days while eating.

Once we were done with that, I went and grabbed the mugs and sharpies and we got started. We decided to make mugs for each other to take to work. It was pretty awesome coming up with stuff to draw on them. Daniel loves Star Wars (DORK MOMENT) so I drew a Yoda on one side and our family on the other. He decided to draw various things from our first year of marriage on mine. The pictures say it all.... The cat and dog even got in on the action.

(she really doesn't look this demonic all the time)

Once your mugs are done, trade them and laugh at all the drawing you made... we certainly did. Ladies, if your husband thinks you are "better at making mugs" like mine did, you may have to inspire his confidence a little. This is his "I suck at drawing and yours is better than mine" face:

Finally, pre-heat your oven to 425 and bake your mugs for 30 minutes to set the drawings. Leave them in the oven until completely cooled. After baking they should be safe to wash.

(Sorry the picture isn't good, the glare was out of control!)
While we baked our mugs we watched some TV and just spent time together.

(please ignore the dog toys and cat carriers in the background)

This is probably one of the most fun dates we have ever had and it was way cheap. I HIGHLY recommend it. :)

And ladies, don't set your husbands on fire.... it's illegal. ;)
